Our Library
At Aldwickbury, we fully understand the benefits of reading both for academic success and enjoyment.
Our school Library is a calm and comfortable space located in a central area of the school, allowing easy access for pupils. It is well stocked with a varied selection of titles carefully selected by our Librarian to ensure that there is something to appeal to all interests. Pupils are involved in choosing the latest titles that include popular fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and magazines as well as classics.
A Space For All To Enjoy
Our school Library includes comfortable seating areas and colourful artwork on display that has been produced by pupils. All children from Year 2 onwards have a weekly library lesson led by their form teacher or member of the English department. Pupils are also able to visit at break time or after lunch to read, participate in book clubs or carry out other quiet activities. Our school Library offers a peaceful haven that is an important part of our pastoral provision.
Events and Activities
The Library has regularly events throughout the year including author visits, writing workshops, World Book Day quizzes and popular reading challenges.
To allow pupils to gain more responsibility, they are regularly involved in helping develop, improve and promote the school library, and in Year 8 can apply to become a nominated librarian.
Book clubs take place from Year 3, during which pupils review books submitted for the Children’s Book Award and share their recommendations and love of reading. We also hold a half-termly Headmaster’s Book Club, where pupils are invited to share the books they’ve recently enjoyed, alongside the Headmaster, who also shares a favourite read.
