Aldwickbury’s award-winning Future Thinking Curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the skills they need to succeed in an ever-changing and increasingly complex world. We believe in empowering pupils with the freedom to find their greatness, preparing them for jobs that have not yet been created, for technologies that have not yet been invented, and to solve problems that have not yet been anticipated.
To navigate such uncertainty, our pupils need to develop curiosity, imagination, resilience and self-regulation. They must also learn to respect and appreciate the ideas, perspectives and values of others. Above all, they need the confidence to cope with challenge.
Incorporating a blend of traditional subjects and contemporary activities, our exciting Future Thinking curriculum encompasses a diverse range of experiences tailored to foster the development of essential 21st-century skills. From robotics and programming to mental health training and outdoor learning, pupils at Aldwickbury engage in activities that stimulate critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication. The Six Strands of the Future Thinking Curriculum
Our Future Thinking curriculum develops creativity, resilience and responsibility through six key strands:
- STEAM
- Creative Technology
- Outdoor Learning and Sustainability
- Mind
- Communication
- Community
Together, these strands help pupils to become confident and compassionate learners ready for the ever-changing world.
STEAM includes elements of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
As the pace of technology accelerates, the workforce looks to STEAM to build innovations that will power society now and into the future. Through STEAM projects and clubs, including electronics and programming, Formula 1 in Schools, robot wars, rocket cars, masterclasses, Minecraft challenges and game coding, pupils become innovators and forward thinkers. Our Senior pupils also compete in national and international robotics competitions.
Learning opportunities are not limited to the curriculum times. A range of STEAM and robotics clubs are offered to those pupils who wish to take their learning further.
Creativity is rightly valued in the workplace. The ability to think creatively, innovate and demonstrate originality when solving problems is fostered through a range of digital and physical projects.

In today’s technological world, taking time to unwind and experience the beauty and freedom of the outdoors is more important than ever for today’s pupils, helping them connect with and respect the natural world around them.
Pupils are encouraged to see the environment as a place to value and protect, developing a sense of responsibility through a range of activities, including:
- Bushcraft survival activities
- Nature art
- Fire lighting and outdoor cooking
- Crafting
- Shelter building
- Gardening

- Supporting local environmental initiatives
Well-being and mental health are at the heart of everything we do at Aldwickbury. Pupils learn to understand themselves and the important role that emotional wellbeing plays in to shaping their overall character.
The Mind strand of our Future Thinking curriculum allows pupils to discover how listening to yourself, concentrating and remaining calm can lead to success.
Pupils learn how to analyse, evaluate and interpret their emotional state through various methods including:
- Yoga
- Mindfulness
- Growth mindset activities
- Chess
- A complete wellness course with a trained psychologist
In today’s world, communication is more important than ever. Pupils benefit greatly from developing clear skills in spoken, written and non-verbal communication, alongside a genuine appreciation for the global community.
This strand includes:
- Cultural dance
- Sign language
- Videography
- Podcasting
- A business enterprise creation exercise
The Community strand of our Future Thinking curriculum teaches pupils to understand the significance of being a kind, considerate member of their communities and wider society. Pupils learn that they are part of multiple communities at the same time, from friendship groups and their school to local and global communities.
We believe that giving service to others is an important gift that we can offer the world, so our pupils help others, being good role models and engaging in charitable initiatives.
