At Aldwickbury, PSHCEE plays a central role in supporting pupils’ personal growth and development. We are passionate about equipping pupils with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of the modern world. Our programme includes key topics such as mental health, relationships, financial literacy and citizenship.
There is so much more to PSHCEE than what is covered in the classroom. At Aldwickbury, we encourage pupils to embrace challenges, be themselves and most importantly, to be kind. Through these values, we foster a culture of respect, empathy and understanding within our school community, preparing pupils to make informed decisions and leave us as good people, ready to contribute positively to society.
Beyond the classroom, pupils also benefit from workshops, guest speakers and community engagement projects all grounded in the dedicated lessons and the Jigsaw programme.

PSHCEE Curriculum
Our PSHCEE curriculum now follows the Jigsaw PSHE Programme from Reception through to Year 8. Every half term, pupils across the school engage in one of the six recurring themes, called ‘puzzles’, with each of them comprising of six lessons, which are delivered at age-appropriate levels.
Below are the six themes of the Jigsaw PSHE Programme:
- Being Me in My World: Understanding self-identity, rights and responsibilities
- Celebrating Difference: Respecting diversity, inclusion and equality
- Dreams and Goals: Setting goals, building ambition and resilience
- Healthy Me: Physical and mental health, risk awareness
- Relationships: Communication, boundaries, consent and friendships
- Changing Me: Puberty, growing up, self-image and transitions
Each year builds on the last, allowing pupils to revisit these concepts at age-appropriate levels and deepen their emotional and social understanding.

Learning Beyond the Classroom
Beyond weekly PSHCEE lessons, pupils benefit from workshops, visiting speakers, assemblies and community engagement opportunities. From Anti-Bullying Week and Safer Internet Day to charity
drives and mental health projects, these experiences reinforce classroom learning and give pupils the tools to apply their knowledge in real-life contexts.
We also work closely with parents by sharing updates and guidance on external factors affecting children, such as online gaming concerns, TV and gaming influences and screen time. This helps support healthy boundaries at home and fosters strong partnerships between school and home.

Nurturing Personal and Social Growth
PSHCEE at Aldwickbury helps pupils grow into thoughtful, confident individuals with a strong moral compass. Through discussions, reflection and real-world learning, they gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others. The curriculum encourages pupils to think critically, act responsibly and develop the social and emotional skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world, both during their time at school and beyond.
