Music is a wonderful part of life at Aldwickbury. All pupils from Reception to Year 8 benefit from weekly classroom music lessons taught by a specialist teacher. Singing is at the heart of our curriculum, ensuring every pupil develops core musical skills through the most accessible instrument, their voice. Each year group is guaranteed at least one performance opportunity annually through productions and learning celebrations.
In addition to our curriculum, pupils have access to a growing number of co-curricular music clubs, choirs and ensembles and one-to-one tuition to further ignite their passion for music.

- Specialist music teaching with a focus on pitch, dynamics, rhythm and tempo
- Group music-making for enjoyment and participation
- Extra-curricular clubs include Recorder Club and Banana Split Choir
- Nurturing enjoyment through group-based musical activities
- Year 3 learn violin as a class, followed by basic music notation and how to sing at sight
- Year 4 learn ukulele and continue developing rhythm, pitch and performance skills as well as theory lessons
- The summer term involves singing rehearsals in preparation for the Year 4 production
- Explore Latin American and Celtic music and how music is used to tell a story
- Using the musical elements that they have discovered through their listening work, pupils compose their own musical stories in small groups
- Pupils explore jazz and blues and learn about improvisation
- Pupils take part in performances to put their learning into practice and increase their confidence
- Pupils develop rhythmic and ensemble skills through film music and musical theatre, learning to consolidate their knowledge of musical notation and perform as a group
- In the spring term, time is dedicated to rehearsals for the senior production, helping pupils strengthen their musicality and stage presence
- Pupils learn to write and structure pop songs, developing riffs, hooks and lyrics and recording their compositions using Soundtrap
