Latin

In the Latin department at Aldwickbury, we are passionate about bringing the ancient world to life. Pupils begin studying Latin and classical civilisation in Year 6, exploring the language, stories, history and culture of Ancient Rome and Greece. From the myths of Hercules and Odysseus to the structure of the Roman Empire, our curriculum offers a rich blend of language and cultural insight.

Learning Latin helps to develop problem-solving and analytical skills, whilst also deepening the understanding of English and other languages. Classical civilisation adds further depth, helping pupils connect with the roots of Western culture in an engaging and meaningful way.

The overview below provides a glimpse into our Latincurriculum at Aldwickbury, showing part of the rich and varied curriculum that pupils enjoy.

Latin builds valuable skills in analysis, problem-solving and language awareness. Pupils develop a strong foundation in understanding language structure and history, supporting their learning across other subjects. The curriculum also deepens their appreciation of classical culture and its influence on the modern world, while preparing them thoroughly for the academic demands of their senior school of choice and giving them confidence for further language and humanities studies.
