There’s a sport for everyone at Aldwickbury, from traditional games to badminton, climbing, fencing, gymnastics and triathlon. Our dedicated staff ignite a passion in our pupils, helping them find an activity they love.

Games Curriculum Overview
Our games curriculum is designed to develop physical skills, teamwork and a love of sport, guiding pupils through a progressive journey from early years to senior school. Pupils experience a broad range of activities which maintains engagement and helps develop core skills that are beneficial across all sports.
The overview below provides a glimpse into our games curriculum at Aldwickbury, showing part of our rich and varied sport offering.
In the Pre-Prep, the focus is on building basic physical skills and enjoying movement.
- Weekly 30-minute PE lesson
- Weekly 30-minute swimming lesson
- Years 1 and 2 also have a 30-minute lesson led by a specialist sport teacher
- Focus on fun, fundamental skills and water confidence
Pupils develop key sports skills and experience a range of activities in a fun, engaging way.
- Daily 40-minute sessions, including two sessions of core sports per week
- Weekly swimming lessons
- Emphasis on learning new sports through play
Games sessions become longer, and pupils are introduced to competitive matches and more diverse sports.
- 70-minute sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Including two sessions of core sports per week
- Matches or games activity every Wednesday afternoon
- Focus on variety, enjoyment and improving game play through training
Pupils have the opportunity to choose from a variety of sports, refine their skills and compete at more advanced levels.
- 70-minute sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Including two sessions of core sports per week
- Matches or games activity every Wednesday afternoon
- Choice of activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Focus on variety, enjoyment and training to improve performance

Sport at Aldwickbury
There is a broad range of sports offered at Aldwickbury. These are categorised by core, competitive and recreational sports.

Core Sports
Our main sports delivered each term. There are two sessions delivered through games per week and Wednesday fixtures against other schools. Examples of core sports include:

Competitive Sports
This is delivered once a week during the relevant term and there are opportunities for pupils to take part in fixtures or competitions in these activities. Examples of competitive sports include:

- Water Polo
Recreational Sports
Offered throughout the year to broaden the range of sports on offer and develop transferrable skills which complement the core and competitive activities. Pupils may also have the opportunity to represent the school in events or competitions. Examples of recreational sports include:

- Orienteering
- Softball
- Table Tennis
- Tchoukball
- Trampolining


Power of Sport
Research proves regular physical activity boosts concentration, memory and problem-solving skills, all key components for academic success. Sport also supports mental health by reducing stress and anxiety while enhancing mood. Whether it’s the excitement of scoring a goal, the perseverance to beat a personal best, or working together as part of a team, these experiences nurture both mental resilience and life skills, equipping pupils for academic challenges in the classroom.

Successes at National, Regional and County Level
While all pupils are encouraged to enjoy sport and develop key life skills through physical activity, we are proud to support and celebrate those that compete across a variety of sports.
Pupils are given the opportunity to compete at the highest levels. Through specialist coaching, regular fixtures and dedicated training, they represent Aldwickbury in county, regional and national competitions across a range of disciplines, achieving outstanding results.
