Design technology at Aldwickbury encourages pupils to become innovative thinkers and creative problem-solvers, whether working independently or as part of a team. We encourage pupils to be curious about the world around them and to consider a future where they may be designers, engineers or innovators.
The curriculum helps pupils to build critical thinking skills, apply technical knowledge and explore the impact of design on their environment. From Years 3 to 8, pupils benefit from weekly specialist-taught lessons, gaining confidence, independence and hands-on experience with a wide range of tools and materials.
From Year 6, pupils can also join DT Club during break times, offering further opportunities to develop their own projects and refine their practical skills in a supportive and creative environment.

- Develop basic tool handling through junk modelling, baking and construction
- Learn techniques such as paper weaving, folding, clay modelling and sewing
- Explore product design and create moving vehicles
- Learn how to measure in millimetres accurately
- Learn to use a basic range of hand tools and work safely
