How Aldwickbury School Has Adapted Throughout COVID-19
Aldwickbury School

As we are all well aware, this year saw temporary nationwide school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The whole experience was a first for everyone at Aldwickbury, but we adapted quickly and continued to facilitate our pupil’s education – supporting our parents, our students and our staff. We also had a lot of fun along the way!

We have been so impressed with the Aldwickbury community and we are so grateful to everyone who has persevered throughout this journey with us. Here are some of our proudest and most memorable moments from lockdown:

We Went Virtual

One of the school’s joys is welcoming prospective families and showing them around the premises. Sadly, we haven’t been able to do this over the past few months. However, we were not going to let the current pandemic stop us from showing what a special place Aldwickbury is. That’s why we created a Virtual Admissions Information page to give prospective parents the best insight into our school – and it’s proving to be very popular! Take a look at the page to see exclusive interviews, walk-throughs and information for parents.

We Scrubbed Up Well

During April we raised funds to not only support parents sewing scrubs for the NHS, but also the Harpenden Sewing for the NHS group. We are so grateful to all of our parents who helped us produce scrubs for our local NHS workforce at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and beyond.

We Embraced Remote Learning

Remote learning was a new experience for both our staff and pupils… not to mention unknown territory for parents! With a wonderfully fun ‘Welcome Back!’ video from the Headmaster and Mrs Latimer, who couldn’t get excited about the new Summer term?!

We even saw that some of our Pre-Prep boys had a helping hand in their ‘home-classrooms’ from their furry little friends. Now that's what we call teamwork!

Let the Music Play

We managed 160 remote music lessons in just one week. Attendance and commitment from the staff and boys were brilliant. Top marks all round!

We had Drama…

We had drama, but the good kind! The Year 7 boys were tremendously creative and explored characters from their favourite paintings.

We Built Castles Together!

Although our pupils couldn’t play with one another, we created game ideas for them to do at home and with each other over WhatsApp and Zoom. Equipped with only paper, Sellotape, aluminium foil and rubber bands, our pupils had to build a castle.

We went on a Journey to Aldwickbillo!

The Aldwickbury School staff came together and showed us all how to work together, despite being apart, by performing a ‘Road to Adwickbillo’. Take a look at the video for the full experience!

A positive return for staff and students

We were thrilled to be able to bring all year groups back before the end of summer term, ensuring a plentiful supply of pastoral time, games and play before the summer break.

We even managed to have holiday club which the boys loved – just being outside with friends playing made it all worthwhile, and reminded us just how special Aldwickbury is when it’s filled with the sound of laughter!

We look forward to the year ahead

Although our Summer term has been different to last year’s, we are so proud of everyone for coming together and sharing their positive experiences for us all to enjoy during this difficult period. We have come leaps and bounds since the beginning of the lockdown and just can’t wait to welcome all the boys, parents and staff back to school in September

We think our teachers put it perfectly in their latest music video. Whilst times are different, ‘We are still Aldwickbury!’.
