Aldwickbury's 75th Anniversary Year

As we reflect on the significant milestone of our school's 75th anniversary, it is evident that the special events throughout the year highlight the strong sense of community and that the school's values are ever present. From the exciting unveiling of the sports hall to the burial of a time capsule, our AOBA 75th Anniversary Garden Party, Year 6s captivating production of 'A Christmas Carol' and the Christmas Carol concert at St Albans Cathedral it has been another busy year at Aldwickbury. Join us in revisiting some of these highlights as we not only honour our past but also celebrate how far Aldwickbury has come!

Sports Hall Opening
The opening of the Aldwickbury School Sports Hall in April 2023 coincided with the start of Aldwickbury's 75th anniversary celebrations. After 50 years of service to the school the old gymnasium was knocked down in July 2021 to make way for the new purpose-built sports facility. The new building was opened by former Headmaster, Vernon Hales, whose vision for the project was brought to fruition before his retirement from the role in 2021.

Time Capsule Burial
At the Sports Hall opening our Section Captains buried a commemorative Time Capsule with the Town Mayor of Harpenden, Lisa Scriven. The capsule contained a variety of mementoes and photos capturing life at the school in 2023. We hope the time capsule will be opened by the future Head and pupils of Aldwickbury at the school's centenary in 2048!

Saturday 17th June was a fabulous day at Aldwickbury as we welcomed back to the school over 130 old boys and former staff for our AOBA 75th Anniversary Garden Party. We were delighted to capture the spirit of the day with a photo of seven of the original Aldwickbury boys from 1948 with our current boys.

Year 6 Anniversary Production
Our Year 6 boys performed a fabulous production of 'A Christmas Carol' in celebration of 75 years of drama at Aldwickbury. The Chidell Hall was transformed into Dickensian London and the boys delighted the audience showcasing their acting, singing and dancing talents. Their hard work, dedication and passion were evident throughout the performance as they brought the characters to life. The production not only entertained the audience but also honoured 75 years of drama at Aldwickbury.

Carol Concert at St Albans Cathedral
This year's annual carol service was extra special as it was in honour of our 75th anniversary and held at St Albans Cathedral. Our Junior, Senior and Chamber Choirs all sang beautifully. The Parent and Staff Choir also played their part in a magical commemorative service to recognise 75 years as a school. Special thanks to Reverend Kevin Walton Canon Chancellor (St Albans Cathedral), Reverend Canon Dr Dennis Stamps (St Nicholas Church, Harpenden), Reverend Tim Vickers (St John's Harpenden) and all the staff and everyone involved in the service who contributed to making it such a memorable occasion.
