Psychological Fitness’ for Aldwickbury Year 6 Boys

During this half-term within their Future Thinking Curriculum sessions our Year 6 boys attended Dr Vanessa Moulton’s Psychological Fitness Project’

During the course of three modular sessions the boys discovered: the fundamentals of psychological fitness; the science that drives or hinders psychological fitness; understanding mental health disorders and how to look out for friends (as well as how to positively contribute to friends’ psychological fitness).

The Psychological Fitness Modules aimed to help the boys understand what psychological fitness is and answer questions they have surrounding mental health and wellbeing. The boys were engaged in each talk and completed activation sessions which provided tools and strategies to assist the boys in managing stress. Questions asked by the boys during the talks included “how do we stop fear?” and “how do we stop overthinking?” Dr Moulton also gave the boys tips on how to ignite the soothing system and explained how different parts of the brain control our fight or flight response.

The workshop was incredibly valuable for the Year 6’s and linked to the ‘Mind’ element of our Future Thinking Curriculum which focuses on the boys mental health.

Thank you to Dr Moulton for presenting these valuable workshops and helping to the boys to become resilient, psychologically fit students.
