Aldwickbury Shines at IAPS Swimming Finals

On the 3rd of June, Aldwickbury School’s swimming team participated in the highly anticipated IAPS Finals held at the prestigious London Aquatic Centre. The event brought together some of the most talented young swimmers from independent schools across the country. Aldwickbury made a strong showing, with a team of 13 boys ready to showcase their skills and determination.

One notable highlight of this year’s IAPS Finals was the introduction of a para event, marking a significant step forward in inclusivity. Aldwickbury proudly supported para swimmer Lewis S, who competed in the 50m Freestyle. Despite the intense competition, Lewis managed to swim a personal best, demonstrating his immense talent and dedication to the sport. Lewis came away with a well-deserved bronze medal and everyone in attendance was impressed by the competitors’ mental strength, talent, and resilience.

In addition to individual events, Aldwickbury entered four relay teams in the competition. The school fielded three medley relays and one freestyle relay, showcasing their depth and versatility in different swimming styles. The Year 7 team performed exceptionally well, winning their heat and ultimately finishing in an impressive 7th place overall. The Year 6 team also put on a commendable performance, securing the 20th position in the country. Meanwhile, the Year 5 team demonstrated their skills and teamwork, securing 17th place in the medley relay and an impressive 6th place in the freestyle relay.

The individual swimmers from Aldwickbury displayed exceptional talent and determination throughout the event. Hugo R showcased his prowess in the butterfly stroke, while James H excelled in the backstroke. Ollie BW’s breaststroke technique was a sight to behold, and Charlie H displayed his skills in the butterfly as well. Both Charlie and James managed to qualify for the finals in their respective events, and their hard work paid off as they both finished in 5th place. Their performances were outstanding considering the extremely high standard of competition they faced.

It is worth noting that the IAPS Finals served as a platform for the boys to achieve personal bests, reflecting their continuous improvement and dedication to swimming. Each swimmer pushed their limits, demonstrating their commitment and passion for the sport.

Congratulations to all the boys who participated in the IAPS Finals. Their outstanding achievements and remarkable performances have undoubtedly made their school, their families, and themselves incredibly proud. As they continue to grow and develop their swimming abilities, we can only expect even greater accomplishments in the future.
