Last week our boys received their LAMDA results from the examinations taken last December. There were 27 boys in total that took their LAMDA Exams, this included exams in Acting, Speaking Verse and Prose. The boys received excellent results collectively achieving 5 Merits and 22 Distinctions. We are very proud of all the boys for all the hard work they put into preparing for their exams.
There are currently 136 boys from Years 3 – 8 who have LAMDA tuition with our talented team of Drama and LAMDA teachers – Miss Attzs, Ms Canale, Mrs Davis, Mrs Venney and Miss Hughes. Our Director of Drama Miss Attzs, is also a LAMDA examiner therefore she knows the exam process and marking criteria to an excellent standard.
LAMDA boys study various syllabi including acting, speaking verse and prose, reading for performance and public speaking. The exam involves boys presenting 1-2 performances for an external examiner that they have never met. They are marked on technical skills such as audibility, clarity of diction and use of facial expressions. Additionally, they are marked on their interpretation skills, which demonstrates how well boys can bring their text, characters, or topic to life for an audience, There are also marks awarded for theoretical knowledge whereby boys must discuss their understanding of their performance texts.
LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) has been offering speech examinations to the public since the 1880’s. LAMDA has a mission to support the creative, intellectual and social development of the individual. The lessons have a variety of benefits that are so valuable for the boys such as unlocking their imagination and creative thinking; developing expressive and communication skills; refining technical speaking and movement skills; building confidence and self-esteem which will doubtlessly have many applications in their future endeavours. In addition progress is able to be measured against an international standard and a skill certification can be acquired for career development.
