Aldwickbury School IAPS Tennis Champions

,

A hugely successful and enjoyable two days of the IAPS National Tennis Championships at Rugby School last Sunday and Monday finished on a huge high with Matthew and Jacob winning a deciding 10 point tie break to become U11 IAPS National Champions. The format is that there are teams of two boys who each play one singles and then play doubles. Having fought their way through some tough matches to reach the final, they then met Feltonfleet in a very close and tense match. Matthew fought back from a set down to win his singles in a tie break, and after Jacob had suffered his first loss of the tournament against a strong number two player, the doubles was now the deciding match. After losing an edgy first set the boys responded superbly to claim the second and force the match into another tiebreak. At 5 points all the match was anyone’s, but eventually, Matthew and Jacob came out on top. To win such a competitive event with some outstanding players in is a huge achievement. Well done boys!

As well as the Under 11 team Aldwickbury was also represented well by two Under 13 teams and an Under 11 B team. All four teams won their first match to reach the Quarter Finals. At this stage you then play off for all the places and at the end of the competition Nick and Milo finished 5th in the U13 Boys, Harry and Ben finished 7th in the same event, and William and Toby finished 6th in the Under 11 B competition. All the boys should be congratulated not only for their play but for their conduct throughout the event.

A big well done also to our other U11 team – Nick and Milo and our two U13 teams – Harry, Ben, William and Toby, who all did a fantastic job representing Aldwickbury. All the boys should be congratulated not only for their play but for their excellent conduct throughout the event.
