Aldwickbury entered both an Under 11 and Under 13 team for the first time at the IAPS cross-country held at Woodbridge School, Suffolk. Twelve boys travelled to the championships following their success at the York House meet. Schools from as far afield as Ardingly on the south coast, to Barnard Castle in Durham, and Serbergh in Cumbria, were in attendance.
After walking the course, attaching chip timing and adorning vests, it was time for the boys to start racing. A strong field lined up in the Under 11 boys race. As the field set off, Ollie BW was at the front of the pack and finished with a very creditable 7th place. An outstanding achievement, which augurs well for next year. Callum B followed Ollie home with a solid run in 45th position. Oscar S fell with a few hundred metres to go but, showing true Aldwickbury spirit, picked himself back up to finish the race. Ben H (52nd), Alex S (54th) and Bobby M in (60th) represented the school admirably.
In the Senior race, Gabriel A was to the fore as the pack sprinted off at the start. He settled nicely into the top three, and secured a bronze medal at the finish. Harry E ran a controlled race to finish in an excellent sixth position. During Christian C first lap he was around 30th place but showed plenty of the Aldwickbury values, and managed to finish in an incredible 15th place. Zhi Tao H (27th) Nick J ( 31st) and Hamish T (35th) were all rewarded with certificates as part of the winning team.
Aldwickbury was crowned IAPS Under 13 cross-country champions. The commitment of the boys is hugely commendable and we are very proud of them!
