Last week we celebrated Aldwickbury Languages Week! It was a jam-packed week filled with several activities across the school which celebrated different languages and cultures whilst inspiring the boys.
The week started with an assembly led by the Year 8 boys, who excelled on their first opportunity to show leadership skills. They followed up the assembly by delivering well-planned and engaging language lessons to Pre-Prep and Junior boys. The boys taking part enjoyed their lessons while the staff looked on and allowed Year 8 to take complete control.
Another special assembly saw Mr Wright, Head of Spanish at St Albans School give an inspiring presentation on the benefits of learning a language. We also invited The Freshwater Theatre Company to join us to run three interactive theatre workshops for Years 3 to 8. From The Three Musketeers to The Three Little Pigs each session engaged the boys in a fun creative way. The catering team also worked extra hard that week serving a themed menu based on a different country each day!
On the final day of Languages Week, we welcomed over 150 Year 4 pupils from The Shared Learning Trust schools including The Linden Academy, The Vale Academy and The Rushmere Park Academy. We enjoyed a French Breakfast followed by a game of pétanque on the top terrace all while learning plenty of French vocabulary. We are so proud of our Year 8 boys for hosting our guests from The Shared Learning Trust. They embodied all of our Aldwickbury Values, especially kindness, cooperation and respect.
Also thank you to our Languages department who supported by the rest of the team hosted a successful week of activities and events that provided lots of fun and engaging ways to ignite a love of languages and curiosity for other cultures.
