History
Everyone loves a good story and history is packed full of fascinating ones. At Aldwickbury we aim to foster a love of history in the boys engaging them in a range of diverse and exciting topics. They will learn to question evidence, learn independently, have confidence to express their own opinion and answer historical questions; all skills that will enable them to progress with their historical studies in their next schools and equip them for entering the modern world of work. We have subject specialists delivering the history curriculum in Years 5-8 and a passionate team of teachers who love history supporting the curriculum in the lower years.
From Reception to Year 8, the boys build up their history knowledge and skill base with the aim that they are ready for senior school exams and scholarships in Years 7 and 8. This is taught through topics such as the history of transport and the Victorians in Pre-Prep to the Romans, the Shang Dynasty and WW1 in Years 3-8. They will take part in a number of themed historical days and trips out with cross-curricular links, at a variety of locations including Windsor Castle, Celtic Harmony, Vimy Ridge (on the Year 7 French trip), Wardown House, RAF Hendon and Hampton Court.
