Design Technology

The teaching of design technology at Aldwickbury requires the boys to become creative problem solvers, as individuals and members of a team. We encourage the boys to be curious about the world around them and to consider a future where they may be designers, engineers and innovators.

They must look for needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of ideas and use their practical and technical skills to find solutions, whilst incorporating critical and analytical thinking.

Through our design and technology curriculum, boys learn to make valued judgements, aesthetic and practical decisions and become actively involved in shaping future environments.

Boys have a specialist teacher from Years 3 to 8 and have an hour a week to complete a variety of design tasks and through this time, boys gain confidence, independence and practical skills.

From Year 6 boys are encouraged to join the break time DT Club. Here they can enjoy the freedom of developing their own ideas and improving their practical skills.
