The senior football teams got the season up and running with a bang winning three of four matches against Haileybury.
Aldwickbury 1st v Haileybury 1st IX (Goal: Seb, MoM: Ben)
We welcomed Haileybury for the first game of the season. The weather was fine and the itch was in great condition. I was pleased that the goal size was smaller than the ones we had to play in at Haileybury last year! In the first half Aldwickbury had the sun in their faces, and it quickly became apparent the two teams were evenly matched. Every time Haileybury attacked the home defence were able to close them down, and the best chance of the half fell to Ben Herbert who's shot was cleared off the line.
At half time Mr Marshall told us we were playing well and to keep trying to regain posession as quickly as possible. In the second half Haileybary had most of the play but the Aldwickbury was rock solid. A goal kick was sent way down field and picked up by Seb who skillfully beat the keeper; 1-0 Alwickbury! Over all it was a tight game but Aldwickbury deserved to win. A great way to start the season. JW
Aldwickbury 2nd v Haileybury 2nd IX (Goals: Will 2, Kaspar 2, Aidan, Max, MoM: Will)
In the first 15 minutes of the game it was very tense. There was an equal amount of posession and no shots had been on target. Then a corner ball came in and bounced off a defender falling to Will who shot into the bottom coner to open the scoring. At half time it was still 1-0. After five minutes of the second half the ball bounced to Will again which he half volleyed into the top right corner. Later on Henry played a good ball past the defence to Max who took on the keeper and put it in the left corner for the third goal. Haileybury scored from a corner to make it 3-1 before Louis ran down the right wing past their midfield to put in a great ball into the box tapped in by Aidan.
Nearing the last 10 minutes Kaspar caught the goalkeeper napping lobbing the ball in from the edge of the centre circle to score the 5th goal. He scored another moments later following another driving run down the right wing, the match ending 6-1. Credit for the win must also go to the three defenders, Matty, Elliot and Matthew who shut down so many of the oppositions potential chances before releasing the offensive players. TR
Aldwickbury 3rd v Haileybury 3rd IX - Won 8-0 (MoM: Tom)
We started the match very well taking Haileybury by surprise, and within the first few minutes we scored two goals. Most of the play was in the opposing half and thanks to this we scored a several more goals before half time.
In the second half Haileybury set out to be much more attacking however with Edward in defence there was no way through as he blocked all the balls played into the box. We slowly moved play back up the field and by the end of the match we had scored eight goals and conceded none thanks to our goalkeeper. An added bonus was the food afterwards was great as always. CG
Aldwickbury 4th v Haileybury 4th IX - Lost 1-8 (MoM: Matthew)
