Drama is important at Aldwickbury and we encourage all boys to take part. In addition to curriculum drama for Years 3 to 6 there is a main school production in the Christmas term which involves a large cast from Years 5 to 8.
There are other opportunities to perform on stage, including the Junior School Christingle service and class assemblies.
During a time-tabled lesson boys in Years 3-6 develop their performing skills in voice, characterisation, narrative and ensemble playing. They use drama games and exercises to explore and express their own ideas about the world in which we live.
In Year 6 the boys will cover a little of the history of drama and come to recognise the many forms that drama takes in a multi-media society.
There is extra-curricular drama three afternoons a week after school for boys in Years 3 to 8. Classes focus on performance for both the individual and group, nurturing their own imagination and creativity through improvisation. This includes drama games and story telling techniques whilst maintaining a great sense of fun and wonder. The boys are also taught and prepared for LAMDA exams.
These sessions are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for Years 3 and 4 from 4.00 to 5.00pm and Years 5 and 6 from 5.15 to 6.00pm
Years 7 and 8 are on Tuesday only, from 6.15 to 7.00pm. There is an additional charge for this activity.
