Aldwickbury Old Boys' Association
The Aldwickbury Old Boys' Association (AOBA) was established by Brian Chidell, co-founder of the school. He was until 2004 in touch with majority of old boys who left between 1948 and 1979 and also some from Lea House days.
Since 2004 all old boys have corresponded with Peter Jeffery, Headmaster from 1979 to 2003, he is now Honorary Secretary of the association.
All Year 8 boys are invited to become members of the association when they leave and they are presented with an old boy tie as a memento of their time at the school.
Membership includes the receipt of the school magazine for the first three editions after moving on to senior school and thereafter when old boys send news to the honorary secretary.
Aldwickbury has always had a deep commitment to the development of boys' talents outside the classroom by offering a wide range of sports, music and drama. This is no empty statement and many old boys have fond memories of their first lessons on the sports field, on stage, with a musical instrument, or in the choir. At senior school and in later life the majority have continued to enjoy their chosen activities and in turn encouraged their own children to do the same. A few have become teachers too and at this moment there are old boys teaching music and sport, as well as various academic subjects. Whatever walks of life others have chosen all would agree that satisfaction, health, happiness and friendships are spin-offs from remaining active, whatever standards are reached. A few old boys have become extremely successful too and the obituary attached is the perfect example of the proverbial oak tree springing from the tiny acorn.
Prospective parents often asked me about the advantages of an Aldwickbury education: there are many of course, but life outside the classroom must be very near the top of the list, as Adrian Strain affirms in his article.

Please read the attached documents. We are thrilled that John Fingleton and Giles Slaughter have written of their memories at Aldwickbury. These articles first appeared in the Boarding Broadsheet - a termly newsletter from the Boarding House.
Our thanks also go to families of the Aldwickbury community who have pased on photographs and documents that will go into the school archive. If any Old Boy has such treasures be assured we would love to see them. We are able to scan photographs etc so would be able to return such items.
