Year 7 Cricket Festival at St Albans School
Tuesday 24th May 2011
Our Year 7 boys played some magnificent cricket this year to win their way all the way through to the final of this annual cricket festival hosted by St Albans School.
On a sunny but very windy day we sailed through the morning group matches beating St Albans, St Columba’s and Westbrook Hay fairly easily.
After lunch we prepared ourselves for our semi-final against St John’s.Winning the toss and deciding to bat first we accumulated 69 runs from our allotted 10 overs. Our bowlers and fielders then performed brilliantly and we won a close contest by 4 runs.
In the final we played the defending champions, Heath Mount. Again we decided to bat first. This time, against some excellent bowling, we batted superbly to score 77 runs, our highest score of the day. The next 10 overs were a very tense affair to say the least. Mistakes were made by both teams as the tension and pressure mounted. Heath Mount, needing two runs to win off the last ball somehow scrabbled home to claim the cup; it was literally snatched out of our hands. Some disappointed and tired boys returned back to school, but all knew that they had played some brilliant cricket throughout the day.
A huge well done to the boys, and also to the band of parents who sat under their rugs in the perishing cold and battling with the near gale-force wind!
