The Iliad – How it all Began
Aldwickbury is travelling back in time for its' senior production. The story before the Iliad is packed with dynamic and wilful characters battling fate and ambition, love and betrayal.
How very high brow, you may think. How very serious and appropriate for a boys’ prep school. Well ……. at the risk of upsetting the traditionalist amongst you, you would be wrong.
Try to imagine Aldwickbury as a school full of happy clowns, always ready to perform for a willing audience. Then give them a grand tale to tell but make it a musical by borrowing lots of contemporary songs from the charts. Add to that the understanding that all grand tales have something about them that is usually quite silly and you are beginning to get a picture what we are up to.
Feel the romantic yearnings of Paris expressed through the songs of Bruno Mars. Thrill at the synchronised swimming of the children of Nereus to the sweet melodies of Cole Porter. Cheer the heroic youth of Ancient Greece as they try to win Helen with a rousing rendition of a Bon Jovi number. Join the thousand ships as they set sail to avenge Menelaus. We’re still working on that song.
From the sublime to the ridiculous? Yes, you’ve got it. We offer parents and friends of the School a fun-packed, high energy telling of how it all began.
