Swimming Sports 2011

Wednesday 6th April 2011

Aldwickbury’s Swimming Sports 2011

Swimming Sports has been a tradition at Aldwickbury since 1960 when the new outdoor pool was opened by Ann Long, a well-known diver at the time. There weren’t many of the fathers in suits or mothers in afternoon tea dresses with matching hats today, but it was good to continue to give the boys the opportunity to join together in their Sections, and as individuals, to compete and celebrate their successes in this sporting arena.

Swimming is an important part of Aldwickbury life. There is a weekly swimming lesson for the boys from Reception through to Year 8 whether this is in curriculum lessons or during Games times for the older boys. There are many chances for the boys to excel in this sport as an extra curricular activity through the swimming teams for boys in Years 3 -8. There are training sessions each week either before or after the school day.

There have been many successes over the years for the swimming teams; below are some of the most recent.

 2009

U11 Hertfordshire county relay champions in Freestyle

U11 Division 10 Champions in the Freestyle relay

9th in the U11 National Relay Championships in Sheffield

U11 relay team were 5th in the IAPS Swimming Championships Freestyle and 6th in Medley final

 2010

Harry H 5th IAPS National Finals in Front Crawl

2011

U11 Hertfordshire  County Relay Champions  in Freestyle and Medley

We have 5 boys who have qualified for the IAPS finals including the U13 Freestyle relay squad
