Reaching the top of the world

Wednesday 19th January 2011

Bonita Norris, the youngest woman to reach the summit of Everest, came to speak to our Year 7 and 8 boys last night. She truly sparkled as she spoke taking us with her as, after hours of putting one foot in front of the other, she turned to see the sunrise over the tops of the Himalayas with a the curvature of the earth clearly visible. Hers was a story of an ordinary girl with remarkable determination. Perhaps what was most interesting for us to hear was that her journey to the summit of Everest started with coming last in the long distance race at school. One failure drove her to th e top of the world!
