Movember
Tuesday 2nd November 2010
Movember has arrived at Aldwickbury!
Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache becomes the ribbon for men’s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.
Aldwickbury is fortunate to have a number of true gentlemen amongst its’ staff who have dedicated their faces to Movember. As modern gentlemen they take grooming seriously and they would prefer never to appear in public looking at anything less than their best. However for the honourable cause of men's health they would ask you to suffer alongside them. If you would like to sponsor The Teachers’ Taches Team details will follow shortly.
Thank you.

Movember
A few more moustaches have been cropping up around Aldwickbury School this month. For the month of November or Movember about 10 teachers and other members of the wider Aldwickbury community, including governors and parents have been sporting the style of facial hair popularised by icons such as Wyatt Earp, Charlie Chaplin and Tom Selleck, and they are doing this in support of prostate cancer awareness and research.History teacher Tom Hoare, is leading the Teachers’ Taches Team through the 30-daychallenge. He said "the rules are simple - start the month off cleanly shaven but don't shaveyour top lip again until December 1."
Next week we will be launching the best Mo competition with boys being able to vote for their favourite Mo from the Teachers’ Taches Team. If parents would like to enter a vote please e-mail Mrs Bosson at secretary@aldwickbury.org.uk. All entries will be treated in total confidence! Should you wish to view the celebrated Mos, an updated picture of the staff will be put on the parents’ area of the website by Tuesday next week.On Friday 26 November we will be enlisting the support of all 'mini Mo bros' and 'Mo sistas' at school with all boys and staff being able to purchase a moustache to wear for the day. Please encourage your son to bring £1 to school and all profits will be added to the Teachers' Tache Team’s fundraising effort. So far the team has raised £1 400. This can only be achieved with your support so please donate via the link belowhttp://uk.movember.com/mospace/535270/
Thank you in advance for your support.

This is how we hope they will look by next Tuesday!

Movember
Thank you Mo Bros and Sistas for an amazing month and for being part of Aldwickbury's first Movember campaign. There is still time to donate. Do follow the
link in order to donate to this important cause http://uk.movember.com/mospace/535270/
A huge thank you to all male members of staff who donated their top lips to the cause. A
special
mention should go to Captain Tom Hoare who won the vote amongst the boys and
parents for Best Mo. He said "it's been an extraordinary and emotional month, and this award
just tops it all off. I would like to thank my family ....etc"
The Aldwickbury 'Teachers Taches' Team have raised over £2,500 and this amount is still
growing. There are some photos in the dining room corridor should you wish a closer
inspection of all the moustaches sportingly worn by staff and boys last Friday.
We have also used this opportunity to raise the awareness of male related health through the
delivery of a focused PSHE programme which has included -
Pre-Prep: Hand washing and keeping clean
Junior Dept: The benefits of sleep on health
Year 5: General discussions on keeping healthy focusing on the need to talk about any
problems boys might have.
Year 6: Keeping healthy through keeping clean and the benefits of exercise
Years 7 and 8: General discussions on the major men’s health issues of the day including
cancers, diet, exercise and going to the doctor. There was also a poster competition to raise
awareness.
We are also featured in this week's Herfordshire Advertiser.
See you next Movember!
With thanks from the Team
