From the Headmaster
Friday 4th November 2011
The boys and staff seemed to have benefited from the Half Term break; they appear refreshed and full of energy! I also know that the boys in Year 8 have used their break well and have done some sensible revision in preparation for their mock exams next week.
I hope that the parents, boys and various friends of the school will enjoy reading the latest edition of the school magazine that has been sent out this week. I am delighted that it portrays a vibrant and lively school – as I read through the various articles and looked at the lovely photos I was amazed by just how much happened last year! I would like to thank all the staff, boys and parents who have contributed by way of the articles and work that is seen in the pages, and also to Claire Hales who co-ordinated the whole publication.
This week the boys have been voting on the charity that this year’s Bazaar will be supporting. They had discussion in their classes and Tutor Groups looking at the merits of the five charities that had been nominated this year. The boys have selected: HELP FOR HEROES. As always the quality of the discussion was excellent and the staff were really impressed by the sensible way in which the boys debated this important decision.
After over 20 years working at Aldwickbury Mrs Merva, the Academic Deputy Head, has decided that at the end of the summer term she will retire. Her contribution to the school has been outstanding and I know that I will miss her support; an appropriate time at the end of the school year will be found to pay a full tribute to her work. I will be advertising for her successor in the coming months and will of course keep you informed.
