Fancy a Walk to the North Pole?
Thursday 26th January 2012Rob Hill and Roly Burr decided to mark a significant birthday with a challenge - to walk the last degree of the globe to the North Pole, a distance of 110km over the Arctic ice cap.
The Challenge goes beyond the expedition itself. Today they came to Aldwickbury not only to present the expedition, but also to promote science, discovery, the environment and a spirit of self achievement to the Year 6 – 8 boys.

Thursday 26th January 2012The boys of Aldwickbury were again treated to the expertise of the teachers of the English National Ballet. Members of the Company, including male dancer Grant, took the boys through a workshop based on the innovative dance MenYMen. This was created to celebrate the athleticism, dynamism and strength of male dancers. The boys quickly became aware of the level of physical fitness required as well as the need for team work. The Great Fire of London
Friday 20th January 2012Year 2 very much enjoyed their workshop on The Great Fire of London. The boys always gain a great deal from these practical days. They looked fantastic in their Stuart costumes and experienced first hand what it was like to be an apprentice: baker, barber, surgeon, apothecary and chandler at that time in history.

At our first gala of the year against Heath Mount, in a very close contest, we lost narrowly 156 to 164. It was the first gala for our Year 3 boys who did very well and seemed to enjoy the experience! Well done to our Year 6 boys who won all their races. We entertain HABS on Tuesday 31 January starting at 4:30pm. All spectators are very welcome.

Strictly Gershwin
Monday 16th January 2012Year 6 boys had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Coliseum Theatre in London to see the English National Ballet perform Strictly Gershwin.
Some were amazed before the performance begun by the stunning interior of this theatre. Our Head of Latin should be pleased with their recognition of some of the figures portrayed.

Our Colts teams were involved in some 'training' matches on Wednesday against Lochinver House School. Wednesday 11th January 2012The Boys' Council met for the first time on Tuesday. The Council consists of elected members from Years 5 to 8 and will be meeting to discuss issues relevant to the boys. It is very much a boy-led organisation with agenda items for subsequent meetings coming from their suggestions. Walking to the North Pole

The School Bazaar supporting Help For Heroes
Friday 4th November 2011This week the boys have been voting on the charity that this year’s Bazaar will be supporting. They had discussion in their classes and Tutor Groups looking at the merits of the five charities that had been nominated this year. The boys have selected: HELP FOR HEROES. Saturday 8th October 2011Runners-up at the Merchant Taylors’ Year 7 Maths Challenge 2011!
Last Friday saw fifteen Year 7 mathematicians compete in an afternoon of maths challenges laid on by Merchant Taylors’ School. The first round saw the boys embark on a maths style treasure hunt around the school buildings and the beautifully maintained grounds, which looked stunning in the late autumnal sunshine. The aim of the road show was to form small companies trading barrels of oil by learning how to play a fictitious 'Stock Market'. Maths in the City Competition
Tuesday 12th July 2011At the end of the Easter Term, Professor Marcus du Sautoy of the University of Oxford launched a new project, Maths in the City, to reveal the maths hiding in our urban surroundings. The Leavers return from Devon
Wednesday 6th July 2011After four exciting, challenging and adventurous days in Devon the Year 8 Leavers returned exhausted. Their time was spent mostly wet whether through trying to stay in kayaks, on rafts or on surf boards. If they weren't in the water they were climbing up rocks faces or abseiling down them. Wednesday 22nd June 2011Despite the forecasts we were able to enjoy the Senior Sports Day in very pleasant conditions. As usual the boys competed in the best spirit encouraging one another whilst being totally determined to do their best for their Section. The high jump provided the drama and the Section relays enabled the afternoon to close with deafening cheers from both the parents and boys.

Another Delicous Meal
Wednesday 22nd June 2011The Boarders' Supper Club met again in the HM's kitchen to prepare another delicious meal for two members of staff. Mozzarella wrapped in palma ham, followed by chicken risotto with roasted vegetables culminating in ginger sticky toffee pudding! No saucepan was burnt nor any course under cooked. On Tuesday 24 May we hosted a 'competitive trial' match against Lochinver House. The competition certainly fired up the adrenaline and many good times, distances and heights were recorded. On Wednesday, four boys were taken by their sports coaches to the Watford Open Graded Meeting. Essentially the event works by running a series of races for athletes in which they are grouped according to performance, from novice to international quality. The Aldwickbury Ski Teams took part in the SATIPSKI competition at The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead, on Monday, and achieved some impressive results. The competition is open to all Prep Schools in the country and more than 180 skiers took part.

The Under 12 Hockey team enjoyed a fantastic day out at Aldenham on Monday, not only appreciating the improving weather, but also surpassing expectations and winning the tournament. The team won a series of close matches, including their last five in a row, making for a total of six wins and one defeat. Thursday 25th November 2010The 1st XI set the lead for the other nine teams that played against Beechwood Park yesterday afternoon. With a win of 8 – 2 they played with determination and skill showing good sportsmanship both on and off the pitch. Tuesday 23rd November 2010The second Informal Lunchtime Recital of the term took place on Monday; appropriately the feast day of Cecilia, patron saint of music. There were solo performances - piano, violin, cello, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon and trumpet - from boys in all Year Groups and a fine performance of "French Folk Song" from one of the String Ensembles.

Tuesday 12th October 2010The Aldwickbury skiers were able to delight their supporters with some outstanding performances in at the English Schools' National Finals held at Rossendale on Saturday. Amidst a wonderful atmosphere of impressive competitive skiing our U14 team took first place with the Under 12s securing the third place. What a tremendous effort from our boys and Mr G. With the beautiful grounds at Aldwickbury supplying a bumper crop of conkers Jeans for Genes day saw the start of the greatly contested Aldwickbury Conkertition. Boys compete in their Sections (houses) to win the coverted award. Tuesday 25th May 2010Due to unforeseen circumstances our mufti day and the air ambulance visit scheduled for Friday 28 May is cancelled. We are disappointed that we have had to make this change at such short notice but we have just been informed this morning that the air ambulance will be unable to visit us.
Friday morning will now run to the normal timetable and boys should come to school in their school uniform.

Everyone who enters the grounds at Aldwickbury always comments on the beautiful grounds and on the magnificent trees on site. We have to thank the past owners of Aldwickbury for these trees we take for granted. Alfred Loder who had bought the house by the 1891 census was “one of t he generations of Loders re
