Art is thriving at Aldwickbury

Thursday 10th March 2011

It is very exciting to see the progress that Year 6 has made in developing their painting skills.  These skills are now beginning to give the children the confidence to  develop their own style and talents still further as is evident in these lovely action paintings of flamenco dancers

This term our topic has been figures in action. The starting point for this topic was the ballet workshop. In our art classes we then looked at short videos of flamenco dancers and the work of the living artist Fletcher Sibthorp.  Pupils got into different poses to get a sense of the position and movement of the figures as they responded to the music.  We then made two minute drawings that simply showed where the movement in the figure was coming from.  From there a slightly more detailed sketch was made of their chosen picture.  Paint colours and brushstrokes were then used to give a greater sense of atmosphere and movement.
