700 trees planted in 2 hours!
Thursday 18th March 2010
A group of Year 8 boys along with two other schools joined the Woodland Trust’s school event Tree for All last week. This is part of the most ambitious children's tree-planting project ever launched in the UK, with plans to help plant 12 million trees over the next five years. On your way into London on the train look left for the field just before Woolhams Sports ground and over the next hundred years you should see the trees the boys planted start to mature! The children were given a demonstration on how to dig the perfect hole in which to plant their native sapling and do the planters’ dance to ensure it was firmly in the ground. Then they were let loose in the field to plant as many as possible. Apart from a sprinkling of straw the rest is left to nature. How amazing to think that those trees could still be there for hundreds of years to come.
