A Bazaar but successful couple of weeks…..
The last few weeks have been incredibly busy and I have been delighted to watch so many successful events. I frequently talk about the diversity of this school and the commitment of both staff and pupils, the truth of this has been very much in evidence recently.
Our School Bazaar was, as always, a great occasion and the way in which the whole school came together was wonderful. The Year 8 boys rose to the occasion having spent the first four days of the week in exams. There was fun to be had wherever you looked and calories to be consumed could be seen at almost every turn. The mums and the dads seemed to enjoy themselves working as much as the children did spending their parents’ hard earned money! All in a good cause. Thank you to all of you who made it so special.
Some of the male staff have been adding facial hair to their already impressive CV’s! The array of moustaches seen around the school has been interesting as well as impressive. The discussions around the school in breakfast, in assemblies and in lessons have included areas relating to men’s health issues, in a way that would be considered slightly odd under normal circumstances. But as we all know it is Movember a month when a man’s heart and thoughts turn not to romance but to Prostate Cancer! We at Aldwickbury have embraced this important issue; we are raising money for and awareness of this important cause! Thank you to all who have sponsored us so far – there is still plenty of time if anyone would like to add to our fund raising.
The boys have continued to enjoy life and make the most of their school. Some highlights have included:
- The first General Knowledge competition of the year saw our Year 6 team return from Uppingham as overall winners.
- The Remembrance Service, held a week early because of the Bazaar, had a theme not only of remembering but also of reflection. It was rewarding to be in a service so well attended and with such a warm atmosphere.
- The Year 8 experienced a full set of mock exams; they have generally worked well and all have learned some important lessons that will help them to improve.
- Play practices have gathered pace and the boys are working hard with only two weeks to go.
- We have had plenty of matches with some good results, but more importantly boys learning from mistakes, making improvements in their skills and representing the school with distinction.
- Our swimmers have been action and have distinguished themselves in galas. The Year 6 squads are county champions in both the freestyle and medley relays.
So life at Aldwickbury continues at a mad pace with plenty of events, both bazaar and more mundane, for everyone to enjoy. The final four weeks of term promises to continue in much the same way – although perhaps with slightly less emphasis on the Bazaar!
