Fencing Result

On Sunday 18 October at the Hertfordshire Sports Village, six boys from Aldwickbury represented Team PDFA in the Herts Team Event, a national competition in the Foil and Sabre categories.  Twenty-eight teams entered from across the South East and the tournament was of an exceptionally high standard.

In the U12 Foil event four boys - Oskar J, Kimi A, Dominic W and Ben R competed.  Oskar, Kimi and Dominic in Team 4 and Ben Reed a member of Team 1.  After the first round Team 4 were ranked 8th and Team 1 ranked 11th.  Ben's team improved after their slow start and fought their way into the semi-finals.  As the last fighter for his team, Ben came up against the UKs Number 1 Foil Fencer and had to hold onto a four point lead for two minutes to secure a medal final.  After the two minutes had elapsed the scores were even at 10 all and the fight went to sudden death!  Holding his nerve and composure, Ben pulled off a brilliant attack, winning the fight 11-10 and clinching a Bronze Medal for Team 1 PDFA.

In the U12 Sabre event - Thomas R and Lucas J F were in Team 2 captained by Thomas.  Losing one match in their pools meant they had to fence a team from Watford to proceed to the final; they secured victory comfortably 45-17.  In the final, Team 2 came up against another team from PDFA and this fight was exceptionally close with each team trading strikes all the way up for the final hit.  Thomas’ team won 45-44.

All six boys represented Aldwickbury and Team PDFA with maturity, team spirit and sportsmanship, taking both victory and loss with the composure that far out exceeds their age.

Well done boys.  Man of the Match: Ben R.

Overall Team PDFA won six medals at the event, four more than any other club.
