Without Geography you’re nowhere
At Aldwickbury we aim for our independent school geography curriculum to:
- Stimulate boys’ interest in their surroundings and in the variety of physical and human conditions on the Earth’s surface.
- Foster their sense of wonder at the beauty of the world.
- Develop an informed concern for the environment.
- Enhance their sense of responsibility for the care of the Earth and its peoples.
In the Pre-Prep and Junior department, Geography is taught by class teachers. They make use of the extensive school grounds and the surrounding area to help bring Geography to life.
Specialist teaching is provided to boys in Year 5-8 focusing on geographical skills, places and themes. Boys are prepared for Common Entrance, variety of entrance tests and Scholarship examinations.
Fieldwork is an integral part of the Geography curriculum at Aldwickbury. Recent fieldtrips include: Southdown shopping survey, Cuffley Environmental Centre and Flatford Mill.
The Easter holidays of 2011, saw the inaugural trip to Iceland. It is hoped that this trip will be offered to Year 7 and 8 pupils on a biannual basis.
