The last two days have been a little quiet with so many boys off on the Football Tour to Eastbourne. To take four teams away has become a tradition at Aldwickbury and I know how much the boys enjoy the trip. This provided the remaining boys in Year 8 with the opportunity to develop further leadership skills by helping in the Junior and Pre-Prep departments. Education in Prep-Schools is not all about passing exams or writing essays or learning vocab; although these are of course important. It is so much wider than this and it is important that we teach a range of skills and provide opportunities in which boys can show other personal strengths, sometimes ones that they themselves did not know they had!
It was good to have plenty of boys from Years 5 and 6 boarding on the final night of this Half-Term, they obviously enjoyed spending the time with their friends in the relaxed environment of our boarding house. I hope to see them boarding again in the coming months!
I would like to congratulate our skiers who once again distinguished themselves in the English Schools Finals last weekend. All four teams qualified and in the Under 14 group we were placed third and in the Under 11’s the team were second. On top of this Freddie R was the best placed unregistered skier – a fantastic achievement. It is testament to Mr Gilyead’s work that in the next age group up the St Albans team performed very well – they were, of course, all Aldwickbury Old Boys!
So a busy six weeks draws to a close, the boys deserve their rest and I know that they are looking forward to the Half-Term break. They have worked hard and been involved in so much, with plenty of tests, new things to learn, music performances, Chapel Services, play rehearsals, over a hundred football matches, swimming and skiing competitions, fencing, general knowledge, chess and so the list goes on……so it will be good for us all to draw breath!
I hope that you all enjoy the break with your families.
Mr V Hales
